Organizational Leadership (ORGL) Research Guide

This guide will direct students in the ORGL program to the library resources they need to be successful in the program.

Finding Articles using Library Databases

Knowing how to find journal articles is critical to your success as a graduate student. Databases allow you to identify articles on the topic of your choice.  As a bonus, many databases allow you to limit your results by publication date, peer-review status, and full text availability.

The search box introduced on the page about finding books WILL work for locating articles, as well. A more efficient route to locating articles on your topic is to search a database directly. You can do this be selecting a link to a database below or by visiting the "A-Z Databases" page.

Tips on Reading Scholarly Journal Articles

Some lessons from this video:

  • Look up unfamiliar terms and concepts as you read.
  • Skim the abstract first.
  • Give yourself plenty of time to read a scholarly article.
  • Multiple readings are probably needed to understand the article.
  • It's OK to not read the sections of the article in the order they are presented.
