Choosing a research topic

This guide will introduce library resources you can use to help you choose a topic for a paper or a speech.

Finding books on your topic

Searching for BVU materials

This Search box allows you to search libraries worldwide for information on your topic.

Once you've searched for information on your topic, you will probably want to narrow your search down.  There are multiple filtering options available in the left column, such as limiting to items held by the BVU Library, limiting by format (books, articles, etc.), limiting by date or language.

If you have a more complicated search, use the "Advanced Search" link under the "Search" button.

Interlibrary Loan Services

If BVU Library does not own the book you've identified, you can request a copy through our interlibrary loan service at no charge to you.

On-campus students who attend classes on the Storm Lake campus should select "Hold for Pickup" as their delivery preference.    You'll get an email when the book arrives and it can be picked up at the Library Circulation Desk.  Please return the book in the library book drop or directly to the Circulation Desk on or before the due date.

Off-campus students should select "Send to Address" and supply their home address.  Items will be sent through the mail to you.  You will be responsible for returning those items to the BVU Library by or before the due date.  Save the packaging and you can return items to the BVU Library / 610 W. Fourth St. / Storm Lake, IA 50588.  Please use the least expensive postal rate available.

Renewal of interlibrary loans:  Please let us know before the book is due if you'd like to extend the due date.  This decision is up to the lending library, and we will contact them on your behalf.
