Library DIY

Welcome to the Library DIY, created to help you walk through some of the most commonly asked research and library questions!

Materials my instructor put on reserve

Reserves

On occasion, professors put items like books, DVDs, or textbooks "on reserve." Students may access these  reserve items by checking them out at the Library Circulation Desk. Items are placed on reserve because many people want to use them.  Often these items cannot leave the library (closed reserve), or they have a very short check-out time (three days). You MAY make copies or take pictures of the sections that you need, but the reserve item will still be "checked out" to you using your student ID. Reserve items are typically:

  • Library-owned materials (books, DVDs, etc.)
  • Instructors’ personal copies of materials

The check-out period varies at the professor's discretion:

  • Closed Reserves, to be used in-house only (We'll hold your ID while you are using Closed Reserve material)
  • 24-hour Reserves
  • 72-hour Reserves

Items in the Reserve collection do not circulate to Community Guests or to BVU Employee Dependents.
